NVQ

What is an NVQ?
It is a National Vocational Qualification which has various levels. It is essential to achieve the NVQ Level 2 in hairdressing, to be able to go on to become a qualified hairdresser.

What is Level 1?
Level 1 covers the basic skills in contributing to salon duties within reception, shampooing, health and safety, colouring and the perming process.

What is Level 2?
Our qualified tutors will instruct trainees in:
..advise and consult with clients
..shampooing and conditioning
..reception duties
..health, safety and security in the salon
Option 1
..Drying and setting techniques
..cutting
..colouring
..perming techniques or Aftrican-Caribbean straightening and perming techniques
Option 2
..cutting and styling gents hair using barbering techniques and cutting facial hair
..colouring

What is Level 3?
The NVQ Level 3 in hairdressing is an official qualification and it covers specialised hairdressing techniques such as advanced cutting, colour correction, advanced perming and colouring, as well as the area on consultation, promoting salon services, supervision, control resources and health and safety. Level 3 also includes complete looks and assessing (D32/33) and contributing to the management of the workforce.

Why should I need Level 3?
Level 3 is the natural progression from the NVQ Level 2 in hairdressing for committed professionals who want to advance their career and development and work towards management.

Level 3 is also quickly becoming the accepted standard of competence for any British hairdresser wishing to work elsewhere in Europe, as employers in Europe will also increasingly recognise Level 3 as the ultimate hairdressing qualification.

Students need to be highly motivated and committed as the course is very intense. They must be working in a Salon and need full support from the owner/trainer. Hairdressers in this country want qualifications that mean something. Level 3 will raise the image and profile of hairdressers.

What will it cost?
Students up to the age of 18 years are funded by the government and there is limited funding for students up to the age of 25 years. For students wishing to pay privately, a price list is available on request.
